AGV PATH GUARDING / MODULAR SAFETY FENCE

Keep AGV and Forklift Routes Clear with Alfence 20×100 mm Machine Guarding

When forklifts, tow tractors, and AGVs pass close to a robot cell, a conventional safety guarding fence can consume the route it is meant to protect. Alfence combines a 20×100 mm welded wire mesh, modular aluminum profile guarding, anchored posts, and controlled safety doors so an indoor machine guarding layout can stay close to the hazard while preserving usable logistics space.

Plan an AGV path guarding layout

Start with the clearance problem, not a standard panel

In a mixed human-and-vehicle area, the perimeter must be placed from the hazard outward. In the stated layout, a conventional 50×50 mm mesh approach can require approximately 850 mm of safety distance under the relevant EN ISO 13857 reach-distance assessment. That envelope can narrow an AGV lane, move a forklift route into a pinch point, or force a robot cell farther from the line. The final distance still depends on the hazard geometry and risk assessment; the 120 mm figure below is a layout target for the specified Alfence configuration, not a universal approval for every machine.

Hazard-side layout 20×100 mm welded wire mesh can support a minimum distance of approximately 120 mm from the hazard where the project assessment confirms that arrangement.
Marco 40×40 mm or 45×45 mm aluminum profile posts form a modular post-and-panel system that is light to handle and suitable for indoor reconfiguration.
Anclaje al suelo Foot connectors with expansion-bolt fixing, including an M8 example, give the post a defined floor connection for the specified incidental-contact application.
Acceso controlado Five safety-door configurations can be planned around service and logistics routes; a double sliding / pulley door can reach up to 6000 mm in the referenced configuration.
Safety function Interlock switches and safety light curtains can be integrated so opening a guarded access point is part of a validated stop circuit.

Why Alfence fits close-clearance material-handling areas

20×100 mm mesh releases AGV lane space

A standard 50×50 mesh solution may be workable in a spacious cell but becomes expensive in a tight warehouse or production aisle when the required reach distance is measured from the hazard. Alfence uses the specified 20×100 mm grid to make a closer boundary possible, leaving more usable width for AGV path guarding, forklift travel, and operator walkways. The black mesh and aluminum-profile frame in the image show the physical machine guarding relationship; the project drawing must still confirm the final 120 mm dimension for the actual hazard.

Anchored aluminum posts define the vehicle-side boundary

The 40×40 mm or 45×45 mm aluminum posts connect to panels through a modular system instead of site welding. A foot connector and M8 expansion-bolt example give the floor-mounted frame a repeatable installation detail, while the lightweight aluminum profile is easier to handle during retrofit guarding or a later line change. This assembly is intended to manage the specified incidental contact risk beside a route; it is not a published vehicle-impact test rating and should not replace a high-impact steel barrier where that duty is required.

Safety doors turn shared movement into controlled access

A fence only works as part of the traffic plan when people can enter for service without creating an uncontrolled opening. Alfence can be specified with five safety-door configurations, including hinged, folding, telescopic, and sliding or linear arrangements. The double sliding / pulley option can extend to 6000 mm in the referenced configuration for a wider material-handling opening. Interlock-ready hardware can be connected so a door-open condition stops the relevant motion after the complete safety circuit is validated. Hinged gates, control panels, and robot-cell access are visible in the image evidence.

Where this machine guarding approach is useful

  • Protección de rutas AGV: keep automated vehicles moving beside a robot cell without turning every meter of floor into a wide exclusion zone.
  • Forklift and tow-tractor routes: establish a visible, anchored perimeter around automation while keeping loading and replenishment openings deliberate.
  • Conveyor, ASRS, and palletizing areas: combine welded mesh visibility with safety doors, light curtains, and interlock-ready access.
  • Protección de reacondicionamiento: use bolt-free panel changes and reusable aluminum profiles when an indoor production line, robot cell, or maintenance route changes.

Alfence is an indoor modular safety fence for light-to-medium isolation duties, flexible lines, and clean or mildly corrosive environments. Outdoor exposure and high-impact vehicle protection require a separate engineering review.

Confirm the route before releasing the fence drawing

For an AGV or forklift mixed-traffic project, provide the hazard envelope, vehicle path width, pedestrian crossing points, maintenance openings, door operating direction, and the required interlock or light-curtain locations. SGF can then confirm the panel arrangement, post spacing, floor fixing, door width, and whether the 20×100 mm layout is appropriate for the assessed hazard. Final compliance with EN ISO 14120 and EN ISO 13857 depends on the complete machine risk assessment and project installation, not on mesh size alone.

Protect the machine without giving the lane away

Choose Alfence when the result must be more than a visible barrier: a reconfigurable aluminum profile safety fence, a closer 20×100 mm boundary, anchored posts, and controlled access for the people and vehicles that share the floor.
