Why replace heavy steel with an aluminum profile safety fence?

A welded steel fence or steel mesh guarding system can protect a machine, but each panel and post adds handling weight. On retrofit projects, installers may need lifting equipment and several people to position components, increasing lifting-related exposure, installation time, and floor or mezzanine load. Painted steel can also become a maintenance concern where regular washdown, humidity, or clean production requirements make corrosion and particle control important.

Alfence uses an aluminum extrusion frame rather than relying on heavy welded steel sections. The stated 4040B and 4040P weights—1.8 kg/m and 2.0 kg/m—make individual posts easier to carry, align, and fix with a foot connector and expansion bolt. This supports a faster modular installation, reduces the need for multi-person lifting coordination, and helps limit added load on floors and elevated slabs.

Extruded profiles and replaceable panels support reconfiguration

The modular frame combines T-slot aluminum posts with a post-and-panel system. Welded wire mesh provides a visible physical barrier for robot cells, conveyors, AGV paths, CNC machine guarding, and packaging lines; transparent or polycarbonate panels can be selected when visibility or arc-flash screening is part of the application. Removable and reconfigurable panels allow a retrofit guarding layout to change with the production line instead of rebuilding the complete fence.

Material selection for corrosion-sensitive production areas

Food and beverage, pharmaceutical, cleanroom, and selected outdoor projects need more than a generic steel mesh guarding specification. Aluminum profiles avoid the exposed painted-steel rust problem and can be configured with powder coating, welded wire mesh, transparent panels, or other application-specific infill. For washdown, cleanliness, and outdoor exposure, confirm the coating, drainage, cleaning chemicals, temperature, and corrosion requirements before finalizing the bill of materials.

Share the guarded equipment footprint, required fence height and width, access-door positions, floor or slab condition, cleaning and corrosion environment, and whether mesh, polycarbonate, acrylic, or tinted panels are required. Typical Alfence references include 40×40 mm or 45×45 mm posts, 20×100 mm mesh, 1000/1800/2000 mm panel heights, 200–1200 mm panel widths, and single or double sliding safety doors subject to the project design.
